Dr Apostolos Papakonstantinou is a cartographer working as a Post-Doctoral researcher in the Geography Department, University of the Aegean.
He received his B.S. degree in Physics, an M.Sc. degree in Cultural Informatics and Communication and holds a Ph.D. in Geography and Applied Geo-Informatics.
His work combines new methods and techniques in Cartographic representation, Scale issues and Geovisualization emphasizing in cartographic 2D & 3D representation of spatiotemporal phenomena and 3d animation.
In his Post-doctoral research, is investigating the creation of a robust pipeline in spatial data acquisition and accuracy when derived from low-cost cameras operated from lightweight aerial platforms.
Additionally, in this research examines the use of the UAS, for the creation of very high in resolution and accuracy spatial information for Geovisualizations.
Apostolos is a member of the Cartography and Geo-Informatics Laboratory (Carto-GI Lab) since 2005, and he has been involved in cartographic and geovisualization research projects which led to a number of scientific publications in the field. His research interests include Thematic Cartography, UAVs and Geovisualization, 3D visualization techniques in Cartography, Scale Issues in Cartography & Geovisualization, and Computational Methods in Cartography.
