Dr. Vasiliki Markantonatou is a marine ecologist, specializing in marine conservation and the sustainable management of marine resources.
She has recently completed her doctoral studies as a Marie Curie fellow at the Polytechnic University of Ancona (Italy).
Her research focuses on monitoring and assessing human footprint on biodiversity components, implementing ecosystem-based management approaches and designing of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).
Moreover, her research interests include the study social networks for enhancing stakeholder participation in MPA governance.
She has been involved in several EU projects related to marine spatial planning, ecosystem-based management and MPAs (e.g. ODEMM, MECCE, Coralfish, MEDISEH, ITN MMMPA), and has (co)authored in over 12 research publications in international scientific journals.
